Pull up the handbrake as normal and using your other hand you should be able to pull the actuation shaft out, you can then release the handbrake it should hold itself at this point. You can also pull the actuation shaft out before pulling up the handbrake but you will need to keep tension on it whilst you pull up the handbrake.
