The xenon strobe gives a bright flash to help you read timing marks more clearly while the inductive pick-up takes the signal from the first cylinder lead. A bright xenon bulb improves visibility of the timing mark, which is useful when working in less than ideal lighting or when marks are harder to see on older engines.
